Nissan has joined forces with Japan-based trading company Kanematsu to work with Japanese R&D management organization, New Energy Industrial Technology and Development Organization (NEDO) to encourage electric vehicles use in Northern California.

Nissan will be the project's research coordinator and has been assigned the responsibility to organize the project and compile preliminary results derived with Kanematsu by the end of June 2015. The results will then be used for project's validation efforts.

The project aims to promote the use of electric vehicles for longer-distance, inter-city driving, an initiative already taken up by California which promotes the use of zero emission vehicles.

Nissan and Kanematsu, with the help of California state government are planning to install additional quick chargers along inter-city freeways in Northern California.

By using the information derived by the project, the companies will be able to guide the EV user to find the most efficient quick chargers along the route.

Nissan will be incharge of installing and operating the quick chargers, and Kanematsu is expected to give real-time information services to EV users.
