Taipei, Nov.19, 2012 (CENS)--Taiwan-based NB contract maker Quanta Computer Inc. had profits in the first three quarters of NT$17.562 billion (US$585.4 million), with NT$4.58 (US$0.153) in EPS (earnings per share), leading the top five domestic NB contract makers, also contributing 52% of total profits of the largest five NB makers, dominating even more than in 2011.

Quanta’s consolidated financial report shows the firm witnessed growths in consolidated gross profit margin and operating margin in the first three quarters, at 3.98% and 1.58% year on year (YoY), respectively. Besides, the firm posted NT$901 million (US$30.03 million) in exchange earnings in 2012.

Taiwan’s NB contract makers are suffering sluggish operation in 2012 with declining profits, in contrast to Quanta’s dominating profitability. In 2011, the largest five NB contract makers had NT$45.669 billion (US$1.52 billion) in profits, with Quanta accounting for 50%, followed by Compal Electronics Inc. with NT$11.015 billion (US$367.17 million).

In the first three quarters in 2012, profits from the top five NB contract makers amounted to NT$33.572 billion (US$1.12 billion), with Quanta contributing NT$17.562 billion (US$585.4 million) or 52.31%, leading Compal significantly.

As Win8 has not boosted NB sales sizably, a market insider estimated that NB shipments by contract makers have passed the peak, ending the NB high-season earlier than expected. Contract makers may only rely on non-NB products in the fourth quarter and wait for Win8 replacement effect in 2013.
